[gallery size="medium" td_select_gallery_slide="slide" td_gallery_title_input="GTWA fetes sports personalities" ids="52942,52941,52940"] Mir Mohsin Ali RIYADH — The Golden Telangana Welfare Association (GTWA) feted Indian Table Tennis ace Amaan Ur Rahman and presented trophies to winners and participants of Golden Telangana Cricket Cup 2016. A glittering musical event, by Young Talent Musical group was held here to mark the closing ceremony of GTWA cricket tournament. Young Amaan ur Rahman, a student of Middle East school represented India in International Table Tennis tournaments and bagged the gold medal in Aspire Qatar cadet and junior International Table Tennis Federation premium junior doubles tournament held in Doha recently. He teamed with P. Yanapong of Thailand to win. Rahman held his nerve along with P Yanapong to get the better of B. Aboubaker and B. Youssef 11-6, 11-8, 9-11, 11-7 in the final. However, Rahman bowed out in the cadet boys' singles quarterfinal when he went down to top-seed and doubles partner Yanapong 3-0. International Indian School Riyadh Principal Dr. Shaukat Pervaiz felicitated him in a traditional way by presenting shawl and memento. He appreciated the efforts of the young player and said Amaan's representation in international tournament and getting laurels is a matter of pride for the Indian community. Children should encouraged and groomed for such achievements, he added. Representing the cricket fraternity in Saudi Arabia, GTWA President Taher Bin Jaffer said the biggest dream for any player is to wear the T-shirt of his nation. Amaan realized this dream at a young age and all the sports fraternity should be proud of him. Abdul Rahman Saleem, President, Hindustani Bazme Urdu appreciated the activities of GTWA and congratulated its office bearers for their services. Mohammed Quaiser, president, Tanzeem Hum Hindustani, applauded GTWA and advised office bearers to work hard to become golden like its name. Syed Mozzam Ali, patron GTWA, thanked the Indian community and different organizations for its continuous support and encouragement. He said GTWA has many big dreams for the future and soon a GTWA sports academy will be established in Riyadh to promote various types of sports. GTWA Annual award for dedicated community services "Jeena Issi Ka Naam Hai" was conferred on social activist Mohammed Farooqui Shabaz. After receiving the award Shabaz thanked GTWA and other organizations for encouraging him. He said the inspiration for social work was from senior community leaders and his services are minimal when compared to others' contribution/ Speaking to Saudi Gazette, Rahman said, "It was my first international tournament in Doha and I am very happy to take a gold in the event. The 2015-16 journey has been a very successful for me." Zia ur Rahman, his father and head coach at the NMEIS Table Tennis Academy, was very happy at his son's performance. GTWA recognized and felicitated various other personalities. Among the participants Medak Royal CC, Adilabad Hameed CC, Nizamabad Riyadh Strikers, Khammam Adroit, Warangal Setra, Mahboobnagar Smashers, Hyderabad Pacific Blues, Nalgonda Hard Hitterz, Karimnagar Yorkshire were feted.
