The Customs Department seized over 20,000 amphetamine pills in two separate smuggling attempts. Customs Department director at Dhiba port, Ali Al-Atawi, said they foiled two smuggling bids. In the first case, 10,670 amphetamine pills were hidden inside the spare tire of a vehicle that was being shipped into the Kingdom. In the second foiled attempt, 9,340 amphetamine pills were found to be hidden in the undergarments of a truck driver. The Customs Department forwarded both cases to the pertinent authorities for further action. Three smuggling attempts foiled JAZAN — The Border Guards foiled three attempts to smuggle hashish into the Kingdom. Jazan Border Guards spokesman, Col. Saher Al-Harbi, said the Border Guards arrested a number of men trying to smuggle 50.5 kg of hashish into the Kingdom from Yemen. The smugglers were attempting to cross the Kingdom's border on foot. In the second attempt, an Ethiopian smuggler was caught in possession of 25 kg of hashish. The third smuggling bid involved two Ethiopian smugglers attempting to smuggle 63 kg of hashish across the border in a truck. The Border Guard also seized a large quantity of amphetamine pills and forwarded the case to the pertinent authorities. Two food outlets closed NAJRAN — The municipality shut down a restaurant and a bakery over a number of health code violations. Najran Municipality Comprehensive Supervision director, Abdulali Al-Makrami, said the municipality shut down a restaurant in Al-Faisaliyah district and a bakery in Al-Jurbah district over several health violations. The restaurant stored chicken improperly and left a sewer cover open, while the bakery had poor hygiene and workers with no health certificates. The owners of these two outlets were also slapped with hefty fines. 33 trucks impounded for violations QURAYYAT — The Traffic Department impounded 33 trucks for violating various traffic laws. Qurayyat Traffic Department director, Col. Abdulaziz Al-Birathi, said trucks are not allowed on certain roads, especially during rush hour. A total of 33 trucks were found in violation of these regulations, despite the department announcing the new measures. The department has several surveillance points where traffic inspectors record violations. In another case, the department arrested four young men for drifting in one of the residential areas in the south of the governorate. The drifters were detained and their vehicles were temporarily impounded. Two expatriates electrocuted SAKAKA — Two expatriates were electrocuted while working near electrical generators. Jouf Civil Defense spokesman, Lt. Gen. Muish Al-Ruwaili, said the Civil Defense received reports of two workers who were electrocuted at the electricity plant in Al-Jowhara District. The workers were expatriates and were taken to the hospital by a citizen who was nearby when the accident occurred. The accident is considered a work-related mishap and the Civil Defense is evaluating the safety and maintenance of the electrical generators.
