A brave security officer from Mastourah center, 240 kilometers west of Madina, risked his life Friday to save a motorist whose cruise-control system got stuck at a speed of 160 kilometers per hour. The officer jumped into his car and drove his vehicle in front of the motorist. This allowed the motorist to bump into the patrol car, slow down and eventually stop. This risky maneuver was carried out in coordination with the security operations room that kept in contact with both drivers. The operations room in Madina had received a report from a Saudi national saying the cruise-control system of his car was stuck, about 40 kilometers from Madina on the Yanbu Expressway. He said he could not stop the car. A security source told Okaz/Saudi Gazette that security patrols on both sides of the Yanbu Expressway kept one of the lanes free from traffic so that the car would run out of fuel and eventually stop. But when the driver said he was having difficulty controlling the speeding car, the security officer sprang into action to prevent a disaster. This is the third incident of its kind which road security forces have dealt with successfully between Makkah and Madina. They had previously managed to stop two cars whose cruise-control systems had stopped functioning. __
