An Arab expatriate was arrested here Thursday night after an alleged drunken rampage through Jeddah streets with a stolen truck. No one was injured, but the inebriated motorist smashed into a number of cars. The drunken driver collided with several vehicles on Al-Khair Bridge as he drove against the direction of traffic. Security patrols tried to intercept the vehicle and evacuated everyone from the bridge, but the intoxicated motorist decided to head toward Al-Falah Square. This forced security officers to close the roads at several locations to prevent the man from reaching Tariq Bin Ziyad Square, which is undergoing renovation. This caused a traffic bottleneck in the area. The drunken expatriate refused to heed orders to stop. However, the police managed to push his car against the pavement to slow it down and stopped him before he could reach the roundabout. First Lt. Nawaf Al-Bouq, Spokesman of Jeddah Police, said the police action prevented fatalities and that investigations are still underway. Some Jeddah residents said the incident reminded them of the horrific accident on Al-Haramain Road (Jeddah-Madina Expressway) four years ago when an Asian bus driver claimed the lives of three women from the same family along with their driver. __
