What is the last verse revealed in the Holy Qur'an? Some says it's Verse 281 of Surah Baqra while others say its Surah Al-Nasr. A - The last verse revealed in the Qur'an is verse 281 of Surah Al-Baqra (the second Surah in the Qur'an), while Surah Al-Nasr was the last Surah (as a complete Surah) that was revealed. It was narrated that ‘Ubayd-Allaah ibn ‘Abd-Allaah ibn ‘Utbah said: “Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allah be pleased with him) said to me, “Do you know the last Surah of the Qur'an that was revealed completely?”. I said, “Yes. When there comes the Help of Allah and the Conquest” [al-Nasr 110:1]. He said, “You have spoken the truth.” The Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta' stated in fatwa number 11003 that “The last Ayah revealed was Allah's Saying: And be afraid of the Day when you shall be brought back to Allah. It was related by Al-Nasa'iy on the authority of Ibn `Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) said that the last Ayah revealed was “And be afraid of the Day when you shall be brought back to Allah. Then every person shall be paid what he earned, and they shall not be dealt with unjustly.” As for His Saying: “This day, I have perfected your religion for you”, was revealed during the farewell Haj on the Day of `Arafah (9th of Dhul-Hijjah). It was related by Al-Bukhari, when commenting on this Ayah, from Qays on the authority of Tariq ibn Shihab who said: The Jews said to `Umar: “You recite an Ayah which, if it had been revealed in relation to us, we would have taken that day as a feast.” Thereupon, `Umar said, “I know the day on which it was revealed and where it was revealed and where the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was when it was revealed. It was revealed on the Day of `Arafah when we were in `Arafah.” Q - My question is regarding Haj pilgrims coming from outside the Kingdom, who go first to Madina for Ziyarah. What is the ruling regarding Ihram for such pilgrims? A - After visiting Madina, they should put on their Ihram at the Miqat for the people of Madinah (Dhul-Hulayfah), which is now known as Abyar Ali. Q - If a person performs Umrah in the months of Haj like Dhul Qadah, and then goes from Makkah to Madina and stays there till the time of Haj, is it obligatory upon him to perform Tamattu or can he choose to perform any one of the three types of Haj? A - This depends on his intention when he performed Umrah. If his intention was to perform Tamattu since he beginning, then he should offer hady because his Haj is Tamattu. But if he didn't intend to do Tamattu when he performed Umrah , then he has the choice of performing any type of Haj. Q - If someone passed the Miqat (specific station for putting on Ihram) uttering Talbiyah for Haj or Umrah without condition, and then if he is detained on account of illness and the like, which stops him from completing his rituals, what should be do? A - In this case, he or she must slaughter a Hady (sacrifice) where he was detained. This is based on the saying of Allah, the Almighty, “And complete the Haj and Umrah for Allah . But if you are prevented, then [offer] what can be obtained with ease of sacrificial animals....” (2:196) __
