Changing the intention in Arafah Q- A man made the intention to perform the Haj for himself, whilst he has previously made the Haj. Then he decided to change his intention for his relative whilst in Arafah. So what is the ruling regarding this and is it permissible? A – A person cannot change the intention after entering the state of Ihram for Haj for himself, neither en route nor in Arafah or any other place. It is imperative that he completes the Haj for himself and does not change it for his father, mother or anyone else. – The Permanent Committee for Islamic Research and Verdicts; Fatawa Al-Haj Wal-Umrah Waz-Ziyarah - Page 27 Had wet dream in Mina Q- I performed the obligatory Haj and one night, while I was in Mina, I had a wet dream and was unable to make Ghusl. So, is there anything required of me? A – Having a wet dream whilst in the state of Ihram for Haj or Umrah does not affect the Haj or the Umrah, so they are not invalidated. Whoever experiences this should make the Ghusl for the Janabah after waking up if he saw semen or its traces. There is no expiation upon him because having the wet dream was not his choice. A – Ibn al-Munthir said: “The people of knowledge are in agreement that there is neither brisk walk for women around the House (Ka'ba), nor between (the green lights of) As-Safa and Al-Marwah, and nor are they to place the Rida (top part of men's Ihram) under their right armpits. This is because the principle behind the two is to show stamina and strength, and that is not meant for the women, because what is meant for the women is to cover themselves, and since walking briskly involves placing the Rida under their right armpits then this leads to displaying and revealing.” The Permanent Committee for Islamic Research and Verdicts; Fatawa – volume 11, page 226, question 5 of Fatwa no. 8820. Visiting Mount of Arafah before Haj Q- Some pilgrims visit Jabal Arafah before performing the Haj or afterwards and pray upon it (at the peak). A – Its ruling is – as is known from the Shariah – that anyone who worships Allah in a manner that has not been stipulated, then he is an innovator. So it is known from this that he who has intended to pray on Jabal Arafah or at the bottom or just touch it or similar to this, which some people do, is an innovation which is disliked and frowned upon. There is nothing special about this mount except that it is a Sunnah for a person to stand at the rocks on the Day of Arafah (9th of Dhul-Hijjah), just as the Prophet (peace be upon him) stood at it. The Prophet (peace be upon him) stood near the rocks and said: “I have stood here, however, all of Arafah is a standing place.” (Saheeh Muslim) So based upon this, it is also not advisable for a person to cause difficulty to himself on the Day of Arafah by going to the mount and possibly causing difficulty to the people. Thus, getting tired from the heat and thirst , by doing so, is committing sin because he has caused difficulty in a matter which Allaah has not made obligatory for him.
