Saudi Cricket Center (SCC) has suspended Riyadh Cricket Association (RCA) for one year due to its boycott of various SCC-organized national and international events, anti-SCC activities and non-cooperation toward the development of cricket in Saudi Arabia. Nadeem Nadwi, Chief Executive Officer of the SCC, said: “The suspension is sad for the cricketers of Riyadh for no fault of theirs. But the SCC had no other option than to impose the disciplinary action.” Despite the unanimous decision at the 6th Annual General Meeting of the SCC, which was attended by a representative from Asian Cricket Council, Iqbal Sikander, on May 26, 2011 in Yanbu, the parent body had delayed taking action so that the RCA might mend its ways. The SCC has also relieved Abdul Qadeer Mirza of his duties as Chairman of its Executive Council. A new chairman will be elected for an interim period till May 30, 2012 by the representatives of all the regional associations affiliated with the SCC, except RCA. “Due to the inactiveness of the RCA, the players, coaches, umpires and schoolboys in Riyadh have lost opportunities to take part in many events which were boycotted by the RCA. It was sad that there was no player from RCA in the Saudi U19 team which won the ACC U19 Challenge Cup 2011 in Malaysia last month,” Nadwi said.
