The Administrative Court of the Board of Grievances in Jeddah has asked the Jeddah Police to pay SR152,700 to a plaintiff who was left in jail without trial for 1,018 days – almost four years - and was not referred to the court because the police had forgotten him. The plaintiff, Abdul Raheem Al-Juhani, filed a complaint at the Bureau of Investigation and Prosecution (BIP). He was accused of stealing a car and was jailed. In his complaint, Al-Juhani demanded that he be compensated SR10 million for the period he spent unnecessarily in jail and which caused him psychological disorders. The Administrative Court asked Al-Juhani to submit a copy of his employment contract to shows his salary. But Al-Juhani said he was a student and his monthly allowance was SR1,500. He was also earning SR15,000 by selling cattle. Al-Juhani told Okaz/Saudi Gazette that he wants to challenge the verdict and ask the court to re-open the case because the psychological disorders caused by his imprisonment were not considered. “I was kept in jail for almost four years without standing trial for a case of theft I had nothing to do with,” Al-Juhani said. “I demand that the court view my medical record number 29314 at Al-Madina Hospital for Mental Illness.” Al-Juhani, who lives in Yanbu Governorate and owns cattle, is determined to follow up on the case and to restore his reputation. __
