MADINA: The case of the tortured Indonesian maid will come before the General Court in Madina Saturday, when the judge will be appointed and a date set for the first hearing. The case was referred to the court by the Bureau of Investigation and Prosecution (BIP). The case is of 23-year-old Sumiati BT Salan Mustapa, who came to Saudi Arabia more than three months ago. She was allegedly burnt and severely beaten by her Saudi woman employer, who is now in jail. The woman's lawyer, Abdul Rahman Al-Muhammadi, said the court received the case file on Wednesday after investigations of all parties were completed. He has begun preparing the documents demanding her private rights, including “no less than SR300,000 in compensation”. Al-Muhammadi said the demands are based on the bodily harm his client suffered. The young woman's father and two relatives are scheduled to arrive in Madina Sunday. The lawyer said the medical report issued on the mental health of the Saudi woman who allegedly abused the housemaid, showed she was not suffering from any psychological disorders during the time she carried out the alleged assault. He said he will also demand that the defendant bear the cost of the housemaid's medical treatment, psychiatric counseling, and pay four months' salaries she allegedly did not receive.
