The Administrative Court in Makkah on Tuesday ruled that the Emir's Office in Al-Baha has to pay a citizen SR30,000 in compensation for being jailed without any legal basis, in a case involving a dispute over inheritance. The court found that the plaintiff was imprisoned without a legitimate and legal reason. The imprisonment was in violation of Article 2 of the Penal Procedure law. “It is impermissible to hand down a penal punishment on anyone unless proven guilty of perpetrating something prohibited and punishable by law after a trial,” the court said. The Emir's office representative challenged the verdict and said he will appeal. The man F.Z. filed a case against the Emir's Office after he was released from prison. He demanded compensation for the harm he suffered.
