MAKKAH: A man convicted of sodomy was released here after completing his three-month sentence, evoking sharp response from the mother of the victim boy who claims the sentence was too lenient. The woman has also questioned the release of the convict without being subjected to Shariah punishment. The victim's mother said a youth 12 years older than her son sodomized the boy repeatedly “affecting my son psychologically.” “He has become a very quiet child and his grades in school have dropped. My fear for my son forced me to accompany him to school and wait for him at the school gate to take him home because I am afraid that the youth might meet him on the way and harm him once again,” she said. The mother has also appealed to the authorities to provide protection for her son. Recalling what had happened to her son, she said, “My other son, who is one year older, told me what happened to his younger brother so I went to Al-Mansour Police Station in Makkah and reported the youth. “The youth admitted all the charges against him and was referred to the Bureau of Investigation and Prosecution, which investigated the youth and my son. The youth admitted his crime and was sentenced to three months in jail.” The mother was astonished by the verdict. She said she called the office of the President of the General Court, asked about her son's case and asked court officials how he could have been released. They told her the youth had completed his jail term. The mother does not understand why Shariah punishment was not implemented. “I want those in charge of the judiciary to intervene, be fair to my son and implement the Shariah punishment against the assaulting youth,” she stressed. Speaking to Okaz/Saudi Gazette, the boy who was assaulted said, “The first time, when I came from school, the youth pulled me to a deserted place in the building where we are staying and carried out his act. He threatened that he would beat me if I informed my mother. “After some time, I told my brother about what had happened to me, but the youth has not been deterred. I appeal to the officials to stand in the face of this youth and protect me from him.”
