Ahmad Al-Ansari Okaz/Saudi Gazette YANBU — A court here sentenced a father to five years in jail for killing his son, in addition to payment of blood money to the boy's maternal relatives. The crime took place a year ago. The father went to the building where his divorced wife and sons lived. He met his son Wesam at the building's entrance and beat him with a stick and then stabbed him multiple times. Wesam's mother said she heard him screaming for help. As she responded to the calls, she found him trying to climb the stairs covered in blood. He was quickly transferred to a hospital but did not survive the attack. The father denied that the crime was premeditated. He said that he only meant to intimidate his son with the knife, but his son resisted him and the situation turned ugly. The father's confession was recorded in court. The victim's mother and two of his brothers objected to the court ruling, and demanded execution of the father. The mother said that her daughter asked whether her father would also kill her, when released from prison as he did with her brother. She said that she accompanied her daughters to visit their father in prison and they were apprehensive of him. She is asking for protection of her family. She is not a Saudi citizen, and could not obtain Saudi citizenship despite the fact that her sons and daughters hold Saudi citizenships. She has submitted an application to obtain a citizenship, but was not successful. Her older brother is sponsoring her residency. She has requested a meeting with Prince Abdulaziz Bin Majed, Emir of Madinah, to explain her situation.
