The Revolution of Nightmares ... and Dreams
Published in Alriyadh on 12 - 02 - 2011

The revolution of the street, the calmness of the army, and the demands for Mubarak to stand down as a priority in the escalation of the demands put Egypt on the line of surprises. As all, supporters and opponents, started having fears that the revolution might be abducted by one of the radical fronts, and the only alternative that is ready to control things is the armed forces.
The Muslim Brotherhood were unable to discover their power; the slogans that we used to see them posing did not appear on the squares and streets, neither on their media and websites that used to be more rational. However, some people see that their precise movement is not hasty as long as the objectives of the phase by everybody agree with theirs in removing the authority first, then carrying out constitutional amendments that push the system of this phase to conduct free elections that might make the movement the first winner before other small and weak, or traditional parties that do no longer have any supports on the street, and thereby are incapable of competing.
Others fear from the developments of the events because the martial expansion in the power still exists. Thus, the form changes while the implication remains, and the transmission to a judgment under the control of the army would return Egypt back to the beginning. However, there are who will provide the street with the power of influence either on the parties, organizations, or the army that tries to monopolize authority or return to it as long as the awareness of the Egyptians youths precedes those who think of nomination without any comprehensive change to include all the institutions of the country, which is a tradition that fell by the very first days of the rising.
There is a third opinion stating that the strike case of the standoff case of the American situations and its incapability to play any role was a result of amplifying the role of the Muslim Brotherhood, that are Israeli fears in the first place. There are also who see that Iran's adoption to the slogan of an Islamic country in Egypt is regarded as a propaganda and media pops, because what happened is Egypt might spread to the demonstrations of the opposition in Tehran and other cities as long as the reformers have the ability to persist and argue the street to defy power and its martial guardian in the same scenario as that of Egypt.
Although the demonstrations and protests of Egypt were started with a chaos after the retreat of the police forces and the release of prisoners, the surprise was that it is the Egyptian young men who protected the national and personal interests. And this maturity is an indication to the fact that manipulating the revolution might not be easy, because their leaders try to create a revolution that is un-ideologized by any religious or secular party, because the choice of people remains the only to assert the national identity and protect the country by the army.
Chaos is Egypt is really creative because it created a generation that is capable of setting their chaos by deterring and confronting the authority. This initiative was not the only to happen throughout the Arab history of occupation or the occupying powers, but is a coherence of the world's generations to whom freedom represented the base and ground to the emancipation of slavery.
