One person died in a 5.9-point earthquake, which occurred in the pre-Pamir area in eastern Tajikistan early on Sunday morning, the Republican Emergency Situations Committee said. It said the quake epicenter was located 152 kilometers east of Dushanbe, in the Garm region. The victim was a resident of the village Samsalik situated close to the quake epicenter. The tremors damaged dozens of homes and killed plenty of cattle. Rescuers will evaluate the damage and assist the cleanup of the quake debris. Ninety-three percent of Tajikistan's territory are mountains. The country has quakes almost daily, but the majority of them are insignificant, Itar-Tass reported.
