There have been no casualties and destruction. No tsunami threat was announced, sources at the Far East regional centre of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry told Itar-Tass on Friday. The epicenter of the overnight quake was located in the area of Cape Shipunsky 136.1 kilometers northeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. According to the Emergencies Ministry's main department for the Kamchatka territory, the earth tremors were not felt in populated localities on the peninsula. There was also an earthquake measuring 6.1 points on the Richter scale in the Pacific Ocean off Kamchatka's southern coast. The quake force was three-four points in the Severo-Kurilsk city on the Paramushir Island, the Severo-Kurilsk seismic station reported on Thursday. The quake force in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky was also three-four points, ceiling lamps were rocking in apartments of the city dwellers. The epicenter of the earth tremor was located 105 kilometers from Severo-Kurilsk and 250 kilometers from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The jolt was registered at 14:43, local time (05:43, Moscow time). There have been no casualties or destruction or tsunami threat. The Kuril Islands experienced two earthquakes on Thursday. The night earthquake that rocked the north of the Japanese Honshu Island was felt as a three- to four-point earth tremor on the South Kurils. According to the press service of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry's main department for the Sakhalin region, in the Yuzhno-Kurilsk city on the Kunashir Island the “earth tremors' force was three points, in the Malokurilskoye settlement on the Shikotan Island - four points. There have been no casualties or destruction.” According to the Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAN), the quake magnitude on the Honshu Island was 6.8 points on the Richter scale. The earth tremor was registered at 02:28, Sakhalin time (19:28, Moscow time on July 23).
