AlQa'dah 11, 1432, Oct 9, 2011, SPA -- The Assistant Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Ambassador Atta El-Mannan Bakhit, met here today with Assistant Director General of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Nancy Lindberg and Envoy of the U.S. President to the OIC Rashad Hussein. Ambassador Bakhit briefed the U.S. delegation on the OIC humanitarian activities in the OIC Member States, as well as on the current situation in Somalia and the efforts of the OIC Humanitarian Alliance in dealing with the critical humanitarian conditions in Somalia. The delegation expressed its appreciation for the role played by the OIC in Somalia, which has helped to improve conditions in Mogadishu and the surrounding areas. The two sides discussed prospects of joint cooperation in Somalia in the coming period. The U.S. delegation also discussed with Ambassador Bakhit ways of cooperation with the OIC in other affected Islamic countries.
