Fourteen people died and 62 were injured when a heavily overloaded lorry crashed on Madagascar, police said Saturday. According to dpa, the lorry had been transporting seven tonnes of mined crystals, and the driver had also allowed around 80 passengers on board. The truck tipped over when it hit a particularly bumpy stretch of narrow road, near the city of Farafangana, in the south-east of the island. Many of the victims were buried under the heavy crystal rocks. The driver reportedly had no permission to transport people alongside his freight load. The accident happened at the same time as his assistant was collecting fare money from the passengers.
