The United Nations is convening a high level meeting themed “Addressing desertification, land degradation and drought in the context of sustainable development and poverty eradication.” On September 20, 2011. A communiqué called on all member states to participate at the highest political level in the UN General Assembly, according to a report carried today by Bahrain News Agency (BNA). The outcomes of the meeting will be transmitted to the tenth session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification that will be held from October 10 to 21, 2011 in Changwon City, South Korea. It also seeks to contribute to the preparation of the upcoming UN Conference on Sustainable Development in June 2012.
