Awwal 16, 1432 H/April 20, 2011, SPA -- Undersecretary of Ministry of Water and Electricity Engineer Saleh bin Hassan Al-Awaji said the Gulf electric linkage project is a strategic economic project contributes to the availability of a Gulf market for electricity, bolding its economic feasibility. During the launching ceremony of the second phase of the electric link project here today, Engineer Al-Awaji drew attention that the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member countries are of the highest consumption of electricity in the world, stressing in this regard the need for rationalization of electricity consumption in the GCC countries. He also added that the Kingdom's production of electricity is around 50 thousand megawatts annually of the total production of the GCC, which hits 86 thousand megawatts. Eng. Al-Awaji headed the delegation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the GCC power grid project launching ceremony.
