Akhir 24, 1432 / March 29, 2011, SPA -- The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu expressed his satisfaction with the UN Human Rights Council's adoption of important resolutions on the issue of Palestine. In his comments on the resolutions, the Secretary General voiced the view that the adoption of a resolution on the "Goldstein Report" requesting the UN General Assembly to refer it to the Security Council for examination and appropriate measures, constitutes an important step that needs to be followed-up for implementation. The Secretary General added that it is now incumbent upon the international community to honour its duties as to ensuring that Israel is made accountable for its outrageous violations of the international law and the humanitarian international law. The Secretary General went on to affirm that an important achievement has been attained through a batch of resolutions relating, amongst others, to support for the Palestinian people's right to self-determination, to the Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories and most particularly in Al-Quds, and to the follow-up of the report of the Independent International Committee on the investigation of the Israeli assault on the Freedom Flotilla. The OIC Secretary General also paid tribute to those states that voted in favor of these resolutions which consecrate a genuine commitment to the values and principles of human rights, and which consolidate thus peace and security in the region.
