The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu welcomed the announcement of the President of the United Nations Human Rights Council of appointing three experts to an independent international fact-finding mission to investigate violations of international law, including international humanitarian and human rights law, resulting from the Israeli attacks on the flotilla of ships carrying humanitarian assistance to the blockaded Gaza Strip which took place on 31 May 2010. Commending the role of the OIC Ambassadorial Group in prompting the Human Rights Council to convene and adopt its resolution on June 2nd 2010, the OIC Secretary General expressed his hope that the fact-finding team would be able to accomplish its mission in an independent, impartial and transparent manner as soon as possible and to allow for bringing the perpetrators of the attack to justice.
