The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) is sending its first relief convoy to Gaza on Saturday carrying 170 tons of medical supplies and foodstuff. The OIC move is aimed at alleviating the sufferings of the besieged Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip who are experiencing a real humanitarian catastrophe resulting from Israeli hostilities. Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, OIC Secretary General, has urged all OIC member states and civil institutions to contribute to the campaign to make it a success. He said the OIC is in close contact with its member states and is coordinating with Arab and international organizations to put an end to the Israeli atrocities. Ihsanoglu also lauded the resolution passed by the UN Human Rights Council condemning Israel's violation of human rights and international law in the Gaza Strip. The OIC chief called for the formation of a fact finding committee to probe the Israeli attacks targeting UN facilities in Gaza which constituted a flagrant violation of international conventions.
