A whirlwind struck Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara Province on Sunday around 0.30 a.m. local time. The wind caused some houses to lose their rooftops and toppled a number of trees, ANTARA reported. According to the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (BMG) of Selaparang Mataram, the wind blew with a velocity of 40 km per hour and the tide rose to two to three meters high. Local fishermen were advised to stay away from the rough and bad weather. In November 2010, a whirlwind also hit Dasan Kolo Hamlet, Ampenan Village, Mataram damaging around 120 houses.
