Fire razed the Sragen Kota market in Central Java on Saturday night but there was no immediate report of casualties or material damage. The fire started at one of the electronic shops at around 08.00 p.m. and later spread to nearby shops, ANTARA quoted chief of the Sragen town police station Adjunct Chief Commissioner Agus Irianto as saying. Agus said he did not know how many shops had caught fire as the blaze was still raging part of the market by Saturday night. By 09.30 p.m. fire fighters were still struggling to put out the fire, an ANTARA News journalist observed. Hundreds of panic-stricken traders took their merchandise out of the shops as the fire spread to nearby shops. The cause of the fire is still unknown. The fire drew attention from thousands of residents who converged on Sukowati Street and consequently, fire fighters aboard three fire trucks had difficulty reaching the scene.
