Hundreds of houses at Tanjungsari village in Tasikmalaya district, West Java, were inundated by 40 cm-to-1.5-meter flood water early Friday due to the overflowing of Cikidang and Citanduy rivers. The flood panicked tens of people who were still in beds. It also forced the villagers to evacuate to higher grounds. They returned home before dawn on Friday as flood water began to recede, ANTARA reported. Tanjungsari village head Unang Lukman Hakim said the village had been flooded several times during the rainy season due to the overflowing of Cikidang and Citanduy rivers. Friday's flood inundated hundreds of houses and public utilities including sub-public health service post (Pustu) in Bojongsoban and Hegarsari hamlets, he said. It also affected a mosque, Islamic elementary school building, Islamic boarding school and tens of hectares of farm land, he said. There was no immediate report of casualties or material damage in the flood.
