Hundreds of houses at Baleendah and Dayeuhkolot areas, Bandung District, West Java Province, were inundated as Citarum river overflowed on Monday, ANTARA reported. The floods hit Mekarsari village and Baleendah area in Baleendah sub district as well as Bojongcitepus village in Dayeuhkolot sub district. "The water has risen since Sunday evening at around 9 pm local time," Pardi, a resident of Cimencrang, Mekarsari village, said. The longest river in West Java overflowed following heavy rains in the district. Some houses were flooded up to 100 centimeters high, but local residents refused to flee to higher ground. "In the current rainy season, this area has been inundated for three to four times. Thanks God, it's not too long, and the water subsides just after one or two days, ," Salmah, a local resident of Baleendah, said. A flood mud was also recently reported in Majalaya, West Java. Meanwhile, floods triggered by the overflowing of Bakongan River in South Aceh, northern Sumatra, spread to wide areas, according to Tapaktuan Sub District Head Fakhruddin on Monday. Floodwaters reaching a height of up to 1.5 meter inundated at least 736 houses in 12 villages located along Bakongan River bank in Tapaktuan, South Aceh district, Aceh Province. Flood victims had been told to evacuate to safer areas, Fakhruddin said. The floods also submerged hundreds of houses and hundreds of hectares of farming areas in Central Kluet, Fajar Town and South Kluet sub districts in Aceh Province. Incessant down pours had fallen in South Aceh district over the past three days, Fakhruddin said. Flood victims in Aceh were currently in need of relief aid such as food and medicines, he said.
