Britain's Ministry of Defense says a soldier has died from an explosion in southern Afghanistan. The ministry says the death is not connected to the massive NATO operation in Marjah, according to AP. It says the soldier from 6 Rifles was killed by an explosion while on foot patrol earlier Sunday near Sangin, in Helmand province. The ministry did not identify the soldier, saying his family has asked for a period of grace before further details are released. Britain has lost more than 250 soldiers in Afghanistan since operations there began in 2001.
