The 37th General Assembly of the Federation of Arab News Agencies (FANA) started here on Sunday. In its two-day deliberations, the General Assembly will discuss FANA"s activities and establish an award for best report and best photo in line with the decision of the 36th General Assembly, hosted by Beirut last year. It will also discuss a report on the economic file, FANA"s website, cooperation and the exchange of news items between the member states, as well as administrative and financial affairs. On his part, the Federation"s Secretary General, Dr. Farid Ayyar, reviewed the annual report on FANA"s activities, underscoring the support offered by Arab news agencies to the establishment of the Media Training Institute. Meanwhile, Chairman of the Middle East News Agency (MENA) Abdullah Hassan was elected as chairman of FANA for the next two years. After his election, Abdullah lauded the achievements of the federation over the past two years, especially the inauguration of the Media Training Institute in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, in October. He said that FANA"s members looked forward to more achievements that would boost the track of cooperation between them.
