Forecasters say Hurricane Jimena has strengthened to a powerful Category 3 storm in the Pacific and could get even stronger in the next day or two. People in western Mexico and the southern part of Mexico's Baja California peninsula are being advised to monitor Jimena. Early Sunday, it had maximum sustained winds near 115 mph (185 kph) and was moving northwest near 12 mph (19 kph.) It was centered about 305 miles (490 kilometers) south of Cabo Corrientes, Mexico. The National Hurricane Center forecast shows Jimena's center moving parallel to Mexico's west coast, but offshore, over the next several days. Farther out in the Pacific, Tropical Storm Kevin still has top winds of 50 mph (80 kph). The storm's center is about 995 miles (1,600 kilometers) southwest of the southern tip of Baja California, the Associated Press reported.
