Tropical Storm Ana has formed over the Atlantic and could strengthen as it heads toward the Leeward Islands, forecasters said Saturday. The National Hurricane Center said Ana could trigger a tropical storm watch for parts of the Leeward Islands later Saturday, and could approach the islands Monday. It was 1,010 miles (1,625 kilometers) east of the islands early Saturday. Ana, the first named storm of the Atlantic season, was expected to strengthen slowly in coming days as it moves west at 16 mph (26 kph). Maximum sustained winds were near 40 mph (64 kph). Meanwhile, Hurricane Guillermo was swirling in the Pacific as a Category 3 storm with winds near 115 mph (185 kph). It was centered about 1,385 miles (2,230 kilometers) west of the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California early Saturday, and was moving west-northwest at 16 mph (26 kph). Guillermo was expected to weaken Saturday and Sunday as it moves over cooler waters, The Associated Press reported.
