The journey of 'Cairo Ship' started today on the navigation route from Dhiba to the Egyptian port of Safaja. The ship is one of the two ships awarded by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz and the Saudi people to the Egyptian people. The two ships were launched at the Islamic port of Jeddah on 7-12-1429 by King Abdullah and Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak. The function for the start of the journey of the ship was attended by governor of Dhiba Musaed bin Naif al-Sudeiry. The capacity of the ship is 1, 200 passengers at the first and economic classes. Al-Sudeiry said this development embodies the existing strong Saudi-Egyptian relations. He noted that the two ships are of international standards and are of highly sophisticated technology. Al-Sudeiry said the speed of each ship amounts to 37 knots, and journey from Dhiba to Safaja takes about 2:15 or 2:30 hours. The ship includes 1, 220 seats. Three journeys per week will be operated at the beginning of the operations, and effective from June 15, 2009 a journey will be operated every day, and effective from June 25, 2009 there will be two journeys every day.
