The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia participated today in the meeting of the Energy Ministers of the Group of Eight (G8) and the Energy Ministers of China, India, Brazil, Egypt and South Africa. The Kingdom's delegation to the meeting which started today in Rome, Italy, was led by Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Ali bin Ibrahim Al-Naimi. During the meeting, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Ali bin Ibrahim Al-Naimi delivered a speech in first ministerial session. Following is the full text of the speech: "Thank you Mr. Chairman I would like to begin by expressing my appreciation to His Excellency Claudio Scajola for inviting me to participate in this important meeting and share Saudi Arabia's perspectives on critical issues related to energy and climate change. It is always a pleasure to visit Rome, a beautiful and historic city which has contributed greatly to the world for almost three thousand years. Saudi Arabia shares the global concern regarding potential climate change and will do its part in mitigating and adapting to it. As you all know, we are party to the Climate Change Convention and its Kyoto Protocol and are faithfully engaging in the current negotiations leading to a successful outcome in Copenhagen by the end of this year, 2009. --More
