United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Wednesday condemned an attack on a government office in Kandahar that killed at least 10 people and injured one member of the U.N.'s mission in Afghanistan. ”The secretary general is appalled and deeply saddened by today's suicide attacks at the provincial office near the United Nations Office in Kandahar City in Afghanistan,” a statement from Ban's press office said. “He is deeply concerned at the escalation of violence in Afghanistan. Such attacks indiscriminately targeting people and institutions committed to building a better future for the country are morally repugnant and can only set back the efforts to foster peace, reconciliation and stability in Afghanistan,” the statement added. Three men, wearing suicide bomb vests and armed with assault rifles, opened fire indiscriminately inside the provincial council compound after a car bomb destroyed the council's gates.
