African council of ophthalmology, established in 1989, has been doing its best to fight sight disability. He noted that the national ophthalmology societies in the Middle East, including Iran and Turkey, as well as the ophthalmology societies in Africa are members of the council. Prince Abdulaziz said the council in cooperation with the union of combating blindness will organize a two-day meeting for reviewing the program of combating sight disability in Africa, adding that the council will organize the international ophthalmology conference in 2012 in Abu Dhabi. Later Prince Abdulaziz handed over the prize of combating blindness to Dr Mohammed Qureshi, and al-Maghrabi international prize to Dr Jack Holiday as well as the prize of Miko for distinction to Dr Hormez Shams. Prince Abdulaziz bin Ahmad also handed over a memorial president to sheikh Khalifah bin Salman al-Khalifah, the Bahraini Premier. On behalf of Sheikh Khalifah bin Salman the memorial prize was received by Dr al-Hamar. Meanwhile, Prince Abdulaziz bin Ahmad and Dr al-Hamar opened the exhibition organized on the fringes of the conference. About 120 companies are participating in the show to display the most sophisticated medical equipment in the field of ophthalmology. The function was attended by a number of Bahraini officials as well as Saudi ambassador to Bahrain Dr Abdulaziz al-Mubarak.
