GCC secretary general Abdul-Rahman al-Atiyyah has highlighted the speech delivered by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz at the Shoura (consultative) Council on Tuesday, and said it was a historical speech. In a statement to SPA, he said the King's speech had addressed the Kingdom's internal and external policies as well as the most important political, economic and social problems. His speech was characterized by frankness, transparence and responsibility, he said. Al-Atiyyah lauded the important and distinguished role of King Abdullah and the efforts he has been exerting at the Arab arena for realizing reconciliation. He is keen on enhancing Arab and Islamic solidarity, he noted adding 'that constitutes an awareness for the strong and historical common factors which link the Arabs and Muslims. Al-Atiyyah pointed out that the stress laid by the King for confronting the challenges facing the Arab and Muslim nations emphasizes the support of the Kingdom to the ongoing efforts for confronting these challenges as well as the significant role of the Saudi Leadership in supporting the Arab and Muslim solidarity.
