Each year, on March 23, the World Meteorological Organization, its 188 Members and the world-wide meteorological community celebrate World Meteorological Day around a chosen theme. This year, the theme is “Weather, climate and the air we breathe”. This Day commemorates the entry into force, on that date in 1950, of the WMO Convention creating the Organization. Subsequently, in 1951, WMO was designated a specialized agency of the United Nations System. Speaking on the occasion, Prince Turki bin Nasser bin Abdul Aziz, General President of Meteorology and Environment (PME) said "the PME receives all support from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz and the Crown Prince as of other governmental bodies through the provision of all means possible to do its part as required. Currently, it has become an active partner in the international system since the beginning of works in the field of meteorology". --MORE
