The GCC Standardization Organization (GSO) celebrated Gulf Consumer Day in response to the resolution of the GCC General Secretariat fixing March 1st as a GCC consumer protection day. In a statement on this occasion, GSO Secretary-General Dr. Anwar Al-Abdullah stated that GSO pursues its responsibility in educating and enlightening the community about GSO's activities and role in consumer protection. Dr. Al-Abdullah maintained GSO's keenness to develop standards and technical regulations for products to satisfy the requirements of health, safety, good performance and environmental protection. All these are significant tool that provide protection for the consumer, as they specify products' quality level, control and assurance. GSO Secretary-General said that GSO is currently establishing a GCC unified conformity evaluation system including a subsystem for testing and calibration laboratories accreditation; measurement and calibration system; and devising a GCC Conformity Mark system. He added that these projects will help largely the GCC customs union; the GCC single point of entry; and consumer protection.
