The General Directorate of Civil Defense will celebrate tomorrow the Civil Defense Day commemorated annually on the First of March. The themes of this year are "Civil Defense, preventive information and techniques of communication". The event is supervised and organized by the Geneva-based World Civil Defense Organization (ICDO). (ICDO) is an inter-governmental organization whose objective is to contribute to the development by States of structures ensuring the protection and assistance of populations and safeguarding property and the environment from natural or man-made disasters. It has 49 member states including Saudi Arabia which has joined ICDO on 01/03/1972. Among its affiliate members includes Council of Arab Interior Ministers (C. A. I. M.) joined on 29/10/1998 and Naif Arab University for Security Sciences (NAUSS) joined on the same day. Speaking on the occasion, General Saad Abdullah Al Tuwaijri, Director General of General Directorate of Civil Defense pointed out that the importance of the theme chosen this year by members of the Executive Board of the ICDO would facilitate an important and effective role of media in the development of preventive awareness to the community.
