An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale shook the eastern Indonesian town of Manokwari on Saturday night, ANTARA reported. The epicenter of the quake which struck at 08.48 p.m. was in the sea about 156 km northwest of Manokwari at a depth of 17 km, the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (BMG) said. The temblor did not have the potential to cause a tsunami, the agency said. Earlier, at 08.35 p.m. a 5.5 magnitude quake also hit Manokwari. A powerful earthquake measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale shook Manokwari on January 4, 2009, leaving four people dead, several others injured, and dozens of buildings damaged.
