The Expanded Executive Committee of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) held here today an emergency meeting at the level of OIC representatives. The meeting precedes the ministerial meeting to be held on Saturday. During the meeting, the grave situation in the Gaza Strip was discussed. The (OIC) Secretary General Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu said that "The tragic situation in Gaza requires an instant and effective Islamic action to put an end to the bloodshed". He also called upon the world community to take immediate action to impose a lasting ceasefire in the Strip.
