Eight people were killed and 25 injured when a bus ploughed into a packed rickshaw in Pakistan's eastern Punjab province on Sunday, DPA quoted the police sources as saying. The accident occurred near the town of Muridke, some 40 kilometres west of the provincial capital Lahore. "Eight passengers, including two children below the age of two, died on the spot, while 25 others received multiple injuries," police officer Arshad Mehmood said. Most of the injured passengers suffered fractures from the impact when the bus hit the bed of a dry watercourse after veering off the road. According to the police, initial investigations suggested speeding and recklessness by the bus driver as the cause of the accident.
