The Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at the Arab League, Ambassador Ahmed Abdulaziz Qattan said that "The Kingdom will assume the post of the Vice President of the Advisory Committee of United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in 2009/2010 and will assume the post of the President of the Advisory Committee of UNRWA in 2010/2011". In a statement today, the Ambassador said that "During the conference of the supervisors of Palestinian affairs in hosting Arab states held at Arab League headquarters in Cairo last July, the Kingdom's accession as an active member to UNRWA Advisory Committee was discussed in accordance with the decision of the UN General Assembly during its 60th session". According to the applied rules to assuming the presidency of the Advisory Committee, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will assume the post of Vice President of the Committee in 2009/2010 and the post of the President of the Committee in 2010/2011. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will be the first Arab donor state to assume the post since the foundation of UNRWA Advisory Committee.
