An earthquake measuring 5.7 points hit the Kuriles at 02.44 local time (18.44 Moscow time) on Friday. The earthquake epicenter was situated in the island of Shikotan, Itar-Tass quoted the Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences as reporting today. According to the seismic station Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, the magnitude of the earthquake in the village of Malokurilskoye was equal to 5 points. The tremors lasted for 20 seconds. The earthquake, which was registered at a depth of 36.1 kilometers, caused no destructions. The magnitude of the same earthquake in Yuzno-Kurilsk in the island of Kunashir reached 2-3 points.
