An earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale shook part of Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam province on Thursday but it caused no panic among local residents, ANTARA reported. The epicenter of the quake which struck at 04.26 a.m. was located 47 km north of Blang Pidie in Aceh Barat Daya district at a depth of 34 km, spokesman for the local geophysics station Taufiq said on Thursday. The three-second quake was felt by a small number of people at II-III on the modified mercally scale, he said. Earlier, on Wednesday, an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.1 also jolted Aceh waters but it was only felt by a small number of people. Wednesday's quake was centered about 50 km northwest of Sabang city on Weh island. Aceh bore the brunt of a 8.9 magnitude undersea quake and a subsequent tsunami on December 26, 2004 when more than 190,000 people perished.
