On behalf of Vice Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz al-Saud, Prince Naif bin Abdulaziz, the Interior Minister, patronized here yesterday the inaugural ceremony of the first Arab International Conference and Exhibition on Environmental Legislation. The Three-day conference and exhibition are organized by the General Presidency of Meteorology and Environmental Protection (PME) in cooperation with the Arab League and the UN's environmental program. A large number of thinkers and specialists in the environmental and legislation spheres are participating in the event. Speaking on the occasion, Jordanian Minister of Environment Eng. Khalid Al-Irani reviewed Jordanian experience in the field of environmental protection. On his part, Prince Turki bin Nasser bin Abdulaziz, the PME President said a great attention was given to the environment in the second half of the last century, and accordingly a number of conferences were organized to discuss its problems. He pointed out that most of the environmental problems lack effective solutions. He praised the great attention given by the Arab countries to this problem, and said activation of the Arab legislations in this respect requires political support and seriousness in implementing the policies and national and regional programs. --MORE
