An agreement to build a wall on the Saudi-Iraqi border will be signed soon with a company, Interior Minister Prince Naif Bin Abdul Aziz disclosed here, Saturday night. The Kingdom in 2006 announced plans to build the fence for security reasons. Addressing the media after inaugurating the first Arab International Conference and Exhibition on Environmental Legislation, Prince Naif said details on the impounding of Saudi vessels by Iran were still awaited, but he added that these may be fishing boats. Iran said Thursday that it had seized four Saudi fishing vessels crewed by Indian nationals in its territorial waters. “The Bushehr marine police seized four foreign fishing vessels for violating territorial waters and illegal fishing,” the commander of Bushehr province's police Reza Mohammadi Yeghaneh was quoted as saying. In reply to a question, Prince Naif said the environmental police need more development. He expressed the readiness of the Ministry of Interior to cooperate with the Presidency of Meteorology and Environment (PME) on this matter. Addressing the participants of the environment conference, the Interior Minister said environmental legislations were important but they alone were not enough unless preceded with efforts to enhance environmental awareness. “We look forward with great optimism to the results and outcome of this important conference to form a vision towards environmental legislation which we hope will lead to protect our environment from the threats,” he said. – Okaz __
