Tokyo stocks ended lower Thursday as investors awaited economic reports due out next week. The key Nikkei 225 Stock Average dipped 7.6 points, or 0.05 per cent, to close at 13,822.32. The broader Topix index of all first-section issues was also down 1.29 points, or 0.1 per cent, at 1,344.79. The closing figures reversed an upward trend in morning trading that followed an overnight rise in the US market after the US Federal Reserve decided to keep a key interest rate unchanged. But investors retreated to the sidelines in afternoon trading ahead of the Bank of Japan's Tankan quarterly survey on business sentiment and US employment data. On currency markets at midday (0300 GMT), the dollar was quoted at 107.96-108.01 yen, almost unchanged from Wednesday's 5 pm quote of 107.96-99 yen. The euro was quoted at 1.5677-82 dollars, up from Wednesday's 5 pm quote of 1.5561-64 dollars, and at 169.25-30 yen, up from 168.03-07 yen.
