Thieves were blamed for setting on fire a bus in Colombia, causing the deaths of 10 people and injuring 11 others, apparently after the occupants of the vehicle resisted the attempt to steal their property, the police said Thursday according to dpa. The incident happened late Wednesday in a bus travelling from Bogota to the city of Sogamoso, in the central Colombian province of Boyaca. Witnesses said the thieves rose from their seats near the town of Tibasosa and demanded passengers hand them their jewels and money. Several of the occupants of the bus resisted the attack, and the thieves allegedly responded by pouring petrol on the bus and setting it on fire. Eight of the dead were charred inside the bus, while the driver jumped out to seek safety but was run over. Another man who got out of the vehicle alive died later in hospital as a consequence of the burns. Police were looking for the attackers in the incident that has caused outrage throughout Colombia.
