A tectonic quake measuring 2.7 on the Richter Scale jolted coastal area in Bantul district of Yogyakarta, at about 20:40 local time on Tuesday, ANTARA reported. A staff of the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency in Yogyakarta, Bambang, said that the epicenter of the quake was located 10 km deep in the earth. The epicentrum was located 8.01 degrees south latitude and 110.26 degrees East Longitude some 26 km south of Yogyakarta city. At least 2,458 people were killed in Yogyakarta when a 6.2 magnitude quake hit the region in 2005. Thousands of houses and public facilities were seriously damaged.
