The worst drought in the Horn of Africa has taken its toll on the vulnerable Somali populations, sparking an unprecedented severe food crisis resulting in loss of lives, and displacement of thousands of people in and outside Somalia, in desperate search of food. To this end, the Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation, Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, strongly appeals to Member States, the international community, civil society, philanthropists and all people of good-will to urgently raise to the occasion by extending urgent relief assistance to the people Somalia to mitigate the calamitous situation brought about by the unprecedented drought. The OIC Humanitarian Coordination Office in Mogadishu is on hand to coordinate the humanitarian relief assistance to the affected people in coordination with a consortium of implementing Humanitarian Organizations present on the ground in Somalia.
